How to Make a Zombie Dog, and other pre-con tidbits

(This tasty “recipe” is from Hutna.com, where you can find lots of other cool stuff, too!)

Don’t mind me, I’m just getting a little excited about the idea of yet another ZombieWalk at the upcoming Spooky Empire May-Hem horror convention. A ZombieWalk is normally held in October as part of Spooky Empire’s Ultimate Horror Weekend, but this year the organizers are hosting an additional walk at their May 25-27 convention as a tribute to the late, great actor Bill Hinzman, who passed away just last February at the age of 75.

As the first (and best!) zombie to appear in George A. Romero’s 1968 classic horror movie NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, Bill’s character, nicknamed the “Graveyard Zombie,” makes a memorable appearance at the beginning of the film, when he staggers towards brother and sister Johnny and Barbara in an otherwise deserted cemetery. The oft-quoted line, “They’re coming to get you, Barbara!” is jokingly delivered by Johnny moments before Hinzman attacks the siblings and mayhem (no pun intended!) ensues.

Bill Hinzman as the Graveyard Zombie

A well-known and much beloved horror convention guest, Hinzman will be sorely missed by his fans and everyone who knew him. “A fixture on the convention circuit, Bill was always there with a smile for fans, often appearing in costume as the famed ghoul we all grew up with,” said George Van Orsdel of the Monster Spookshow Radio podcast.

Central Florida fans attending May-Hem on Friday May 25 can be zombified for a small fee by either Post Mortem FX or the infamous Dr. SkuLL. These fantastically talented folks will again be offering their special services from 11am – 5pm at at Uno’s Chicago Grill across from the Wyndham Resort Orlando, and the Walk is scheduled to begin at 4pm. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Vistas Hospice, which is Bill Hinzman’s charity of choice.

I’m hoping to be able to abandon real life leave work early enough to take about a zillion zombie-licious pics at the Friday event, and hopefully snag a few interviews with the interested undead. Perhaps I’ll see you there!
